Course Overview

Perform Basic Maintenance Work is one of the core units in the sector core of Process Industry. It specifies the skills and knowledge required by to carry out basic maintenance work in the process plant.

 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

·      Prepare for maintenance works

·      

Perform parts removal and replacement

·      Reinstate work site

 

Target Participants

This course aims to provide people already working or wishing to enter the process industry with the skills and knowledge required to Perform Basic Maintenance Works. It is also targeted at individuals who are currently operators or technicians from the following sub-sectors:

·      Chemical Production

·      Plant Construction

·      Plant Equipment Maintenance

·      Water

·      Waste Management

 

The competency unit would be appropriate for those with operational responsibilities.

 

Assumed Skills and Knowledge

Learners are assumed to:

·      have received safety training related to a process plant

·      be able to follow written and oral work instructions of lead fitter or supervisor

·      be able to interpret basic technical drawings and blueprints

·      be able to listen, read, speak, and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) level 2

·      be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ESS level 2

Theory lesson, practical performance, written and practical assessment

Certification

Upon completion of the course and passing the written and practical assessment, a WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be issued to the participant.
